Thanks for sharing, this will be very helpful for when my book comes out (in two years)! I think the reviewer that complained about writing meant that the book had someone's handwriting inside. But that should be on the person who sold it to them, not on you!
Haha yes, I think you’re right - I used some creative license to attempt to make it more entertaining, but that’s what I assumed as well! And you’re welcome ☺️ thank you for reading and commenting, Michelle!
I did think your comment on the writing was funny! 😆 Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us, Simon! Your honesty and openness is refreshing!
Love this, Simon - once I was doing the sales for an author at a school event and one of the kids asked him 'Who is your celebrity crush?' Incredible. I still laugh about it and it happened about ten years ago.
I chuckled (sorry at your expense) when I read these 'reject emails' from publishers, they must have a bank of flowery replies to choose from. I've had the very same comments. It took great pleasure rejecting a publisher who wanted my book because they had p***ed me off years ago. It's that old saying, be nice to everyone because you never know who they might be one day. It was nice to turn the tables...... just once! I like the straight talking American publishers, no flowery words or kisses, or passive aggressive comments (well so far). As for kids, they terrify me with their honesty. And yes, write for your audience, the kids!
Oooh, that must have felt good! Haha! I don’t have much experience with American publishers, but based on the few times we’ve submitted to them, I’d agree that their rejections are much more direct and straight talking. I like it!
Maybe publishers should delegate better, and get their kids to send their rejections 😂
Hilarious! I love the lactose inquiry. 🤣
thanks Sheena! Haha yeah, I was rather baffled by that one. Literally ZERO context to it! 😂

My pleasure, Michelle. I’m really enjoying doing so. Thanks again for reading 😊

haha, brilliant! How old was the child? And did the author respond with a name?!
One of my more memorable reviews on Amazon included a complaint from the customer that the pages were too thin...
Wow, that’s a new one for me 😅😂 some people will find literally anything to complain about, won’t they?!
Yup. Pretty much!
