Always great to see authors sharing the process. It's different with every publisher and often, every project.

Thanks as always for sharing the nitty gritty details on your publishing journey, Simon! This book sounds fascinating, I'll have to see if my library has a copy! I also get a lot of fun ideas for stories from the news 😊

My pleasure, Michelle - thanks for reading! Ooh, I hope it does! The news is a great source of inspiration (providing one filters it a bit…) 😊

Another insightful article! I wasn’t aware (although this wouldn’t come as a surprise) that you could write a concept proposal in that way. Is it something that only applies to series concepts, or maybe just non-fiction books?

Thanks, Valentino. I think it’s very common for non-fiction books, whether for a series or as a stand-alone (in both children’s and adult publishing), and probably for MG/YA books too - at least for authors with a track record in those age-ranges. Without a track record, it’s usually necessary to write the entire manuscript, not just a proposal - that's what I had to do for the MG novel I wrote. Hope that helps!

Narrative non-fiction is now on publishers wish lists (apparently) ! So maybe it’s time to start writing your second one Simon 😁
